University of Chicago academics are encouraged to familiarize themselves with new REAL ID requirements that may impact professional and personal travel.
Beginning October 1, 2020, the federal government will require that all travelers wishing to use state-issued identification to fly anywhere in the United States be in possession of a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identity card. Information about obtaining a REAL ID in Illinois is available online. For a complete listing of acceptable forms of identification for domestic air travel in the US, including passports, visit the Transportation Security Administration website. Please note that several Illinois Driver Service Facilities are now offering expanded hours to meet the high demand for REAL IDs. Get more information here.
