Say it Shorter: Communicating About Your Research to Prospective Donors

Your success as a scholar can depend on communicating your work to a range of audiences—to non-experts as well as potential collaborators. Learning how to speak clearly and concisely about your work and developing a brief “elevator pitch” can help you make effective connections and possibly secure research funding. This session will include tips for telling stories and connecting with listeners who are not experts in your subject area. It will also feature examples of successful pitches and engage attendees in interactive exercises to help them develop and share their own. The session will be led by Janine MacLachlan, Communications and Brand Strategist, and Scott Ummel, Senior Associate Director, Outreach and Volunteer Engagement, UChicago Medicine and Biological Sciences.
