Unconscious or implicit biases are the attitudes, preferences, and assumptions that any person holds toward another individual or group of people. In this workshop, educators will consider the impact of negative biases on student learning and how to address them. After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify strategies for addressing harmful biases that appear among students in the classroom.
  • Identify strategies for understanding some of one’s own biases that impact student learning experiences.
  • Consider ways to mitigate the impact of biases on student learning.

This session is open to all UChicago instructors. It will be led by Cheryl R. Richardson, PhD, Director of Inclusive Teaching Excellence at Adler University. Cheryl is a former member of the University of Chicago's Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning.
