Learn key strategies for developing a brief elevator pitch about your research and scholarship to effectively engage with a wide range of audiences, including prospective funders. This interactive session will guide you through three key exercises that will help you create a unique and impactful pitch:

  • Creating a “trailer” that distills your work into one attention-grabbing sentence
  • Telling a story that outlines a specific conflict and includes a strong beginning, middle, and end
  • Sharing what inspires and motivates you as a scholar

This session will be led Scott Ummel, Senior Associate Director, Outreach and Volunteer Engagement, UChicago Medicine and Biological Sciences. For nearly 20 years, Ummel has directed outreach programs that give faculty and students opportunities to share their work with potential donors. During the University’s most recent campaign, Inquiry and Impact, his office raised more than $1.85 billion for medicine and the biological sciences at UChicago.
