Experts sometimes assume that complex subjects cannot be easily communicated to general audiences. But it may be simpler than you think, according to Gerd Gigerenzer, Director of the Harding Center for Risk Literacy at the University of Potsdam and a former Professor of Psychology at the University of Chicago. In this session, Gigerenzer will discuss how findings from psychological research can help experts communicate simply and effectively about difficult subjects such as medical risks. We will also consider the limits of AI for practical communications and culture more broadly. Gigerenzer’s books include How to Stay Smart in a Smart World: Why Human Intelligence Still Beats AlgorithmsRisk Savvy: How to Make Good Decisions; and Gut Feelings: The Intelligence of the Unconscious.
