Creating and maintaining a strong web presence is a valuable asset in today’s academic environment. An effective academic website, if managed correctly, can draw more attention to your scholarship and in some cases, to your research field as a whole. This session will provide best practices for faculty interested in optimizing their web presence. Topics will include website content development tips for faculty and laboratory websites, building a digital academic portfolio, digital accessibility, and using search engine optimization tools to connect with broader audiences and generate visibility for your research. We will also share information about University resources related to website development.

The session will feature Zeray Alemseged, Donald N. Pritzker Professor of Organismal Biology and Anatomy, and Rebecca Van Sessen, Lab Manager and Research Specialist II, who will discuss their experience creating and maintaining an academic website. It will also feature staff from University Communications and the Center for Digital Accessibility discussing best practices and institutional resources to aid in website development.
