Faculty Development Small Grants Program

The Office of the Provost’s Faculty Development Small Grants program supports professional development activities that enable faculty to work together to advance their research and academic careers as well as and grow their professional networks.

2025 Call for Proposals

Eligibility: Tenured and tenure-track faculty
Award Amount: Up to $2,500
Application Review Begins: February 21, 2025

This program will support professional development activities that enable you to work together
to advance your research and academic careers as well as grow your professional networks. Examples of possible projects include:

  • A meeting that brings together UChicago faculty around a shared research interest to facilitate future collaborative work
  • A research networking event for UChicago faculty to connect with colleagues within the region
  • The creation of peer groups or communities of practice within or across disciplines and career stages
  • A pilot program to advance leadership training, mentorship, or other professional development activities

For a complete list of last year’s awardees, see below.

Please note that you are not confined to any of these examples and are encouraged to be creative about how to facilitate your own academic career advancement and that of other UChicago faculty members! Collaborative projects across faculty are welcome.

The Office of the Provost may be able to assist with logistical support for some activities (e.g., space reservations and administrative support). Funds will be available for distribution as early as the beginning of the Spring Quarter 2025.

Application

Interested faculty can apply via InfoReady by submitting: (1) a 1–2-page proposal that includes a detailed budget and a narrative of what you hope to accomplish and (2) a current CV. Review will begin February 21 and continue on a rolling basis as funding allows.
