Communicating research and complex ideas during a media interview is an essential skill for faculty members and other academics who want to increase visibility of their work, reach potential donors, or influence public opinion and policy. In this session designed for early-career academics, Jeremy Manier, Assistant Vice President of University Communications, and Colleen Mastony, Senior Director of Media Relations, will share techniques to help you effectively and confidently engage with media about your research and scholarship. You’ll learn what reporters look for in a story, what to expect in an interview, how to handle tough questions, and how to ensure you deliver your message and leverage media opportunities to reach your larger strategic goals. We will also discuss specific media considerations and priorities for academics who are early in their careers, focusing on developing long-term engagement. Lunch will be provided during the session.
