Join the Office of Dual Careers and Faculty Relocation for an exploration of the Hyde Park neighborhood through the story of its bricks. Hyde Park has long been hailed for its architectural treasures. This outdoor walking tour will explore the details that make up some of Hyde Park’s most remarkable buildings, including Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, Barry Byrne’s St. Thomas the Apostle, and Edward Dart’s Augustana Lutheran Church. We’ll dive into the history of Hyde Park (the town and the neighborhood) and the architecture of its mansions, apartments, and institutional buildings. The tour will also include information on the history of brick architecture in Chicago. After this tour, you’ll never look at Chicago or the humble brick in the same way again. This tour will be led by Will Quam, an architectural photographer, researcher, and founder of Brick of Chicago. All participants must wear a face covering. This tour is open to UChicago faculty members and their partners.
